Hello all, Thank you very much for your swift reply! I have just started researching Bernard so it is early days. Obviously Jackson was not his 'real' name. Any idea what his Jewish family name was and where he came from? Or when the family arrived in Britain? The International Bomber Command Centre want to highlight the Jewish Bomber Boys. I believe about 600 names have been located so far (and counting), which represents a lot of research! Would you be happy for me to eventually pass your names and details to IBCC? My first good find was a short newspaper entry in the Sunderland Echo 7 Jan 1943. I'll forward it to you on another email. At the moment i am working on the genealogy side. I also discovered Bernard aged 17 was a witness in a jewellery robbery when the culprit came into his uncle Solomon Bernstein's antique & jewellery shop on Borough road, Sunderland 18 May 1939. In 1926 they donated to the Princess Mary Fund - the Royal Infirmary Fund. In total over £1000 was raised. Bernard is listed as donating 1 shilling in memory of his great grandparents. Theo 1 shilling in memory of Aunt Rosey. Theo & Bernard in memory of uncle Abe 1 shilling. I think Theo was still alive in 2013? Living Alexandra Rd in Sunderland? In 1939 Jonas born 23 July 1886 & Grace were living 4 Churchill St with his occupation 'Sales Manager' He married Grace b 30 may 1891in 1920. In 1891 she was living Upper Sans St in Bishopwearmouth (my Grandmother lived there, Wellington Lane, at the same time). Her father Joseph born 1869 in Durham is a cartman - her mother Jessie born 1873. In 1911 they are living 62 Borough Rd and Joseph was at that time a contracter. Sons Mya born 1892 and Maurice born 1893 are both drivers. Where did you find Julius as Jonas' father? He is proving difficult. Was he a pawnbroker in the 1870s on Hendon Rd Sunderland? Kindest Regards Dorothy
