Occupation | MENAHEM MEIR studied at the Israel Conservatory in Tel-Aviv, graduated from the Manhattan School of Music in New York and earned his MA degree from the University of Connecticut. He studied with Diran Alexanian, Antonio Janigro, whom he later assisted at the Mozarteum, and Pablo Casals.
He has given concerts widely in Israel, Europe, Canada, the USA, Central and South America. In addition to his repertoire that includes a great majority of the cello literature, he has first performed various contemporary works by his country's composers, some of which were dedicated to him.
From 1970 to 1980 M. Meir directed the Israel Conservatory of Music in Tel-Aviv. Since then he has been performing and teaching - at the International Summer Academy Mozarteum (violoncello and chamber music), at the International Advanced Music Courses in Cividale del Friuli (Italy), at the Bowdoin College Summer festival in Brunswick (Maine, USA) etc.
He was a juror at the International Chamber Music Contest in Trapani (Sicily). |
