Death
Chicago Tribune Irwin Feitler, 87, Real Estate Executive January 11, 1990|By Marja Mills. Irwin Feitler, 87, a prominent Chicago real estate broker, died of heart failure Monday in a Miami hospital. In a career that spanned more than 60 years, Mr. Feitler bought and sold hundreds of South Side commercial and industrial properties for his clients.A leader of efforts to revitalize Near South Side business properties, he helped attract new employers to the area. Mr. Feitler, who remained active in the field until his death, founded a real estate brokerage and management firm in 1963. The firm, Irwin Feitler and Co., is at 2222 S. Michigan Ave. ``He was a dominant force on the South Side in the area from 31st Street to 12th Street (Roosevelt Road) and from State Street to the lakefront,`` said Gordon Mac Adam, real estate manager for R.R. Donnelley & Co. The large printing firm was a principal client of Mr. Feitler`s. ``He was probably the best known real estate broker and consultant there for 20 years,`` Mac Adam said Wednesday. Before he became a full-time real estate broker, Mr. Feitler owned Gardner and Co., a small South Side firm that manufactured children`s toys and games, family members said. Mr. Feitler grew up on the South Side and later settled on the Near North Side. He and his wife, Bernice, also had a home in Miami Beach. Besides his wife, survivors include two daughters, Doris Sternberg and Marilyn Greenberg; a son, Robert; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Rosehill Cemetery Chapel, 5800 N. Ravenswood Ave. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/1990-01-11/news/9001030445_1_real-estate-executive-firm-south-side
