| Note | She arrived from Lithuania as a baby and grew up in Willowmore in the Klein Karoo, where the lingua franca was High Dutch. Her grandmother loved her so much that she took Lily to live with her. Lily came to Johannesburg in her early twenties where she got married. At the age of sixty, she started teaching the piano, entering many of her pupils for their Trinity College exams. She continued teaching into her nineties. |
