Thursday, July 13, 2006 Obituaries Allergist Herbert Kaufman dies at 71 A Mill Valley physician who conducted research on allergies at the Technion in Israel has died. Herbert S. Kaufman died Thursday, July 6 at the age of 71. He was born in Salina, Kan., in 1935. He graduated from the University of Kansas in 1957 and earned his medical degree from Baylor University College of Medicine in 1961. After training in allergy and immunology at UCSF and Oxford University, Kaufman decided to reside in California in 1964. He established his first medical office in San Francisco, opening a second office in Kentfield, where he worked for more than 35 years. While in Israel, Kaufman lived in Arad, treating asthma in children there. He also served for many years on the North Pacific regional board of the American Society for Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. For many years during allergy season, Kaufman reported the pollen count for the Bay Area on KGO radio. Kaufman was also a member of several British and American allergy societies. He was an accomplished photographer and classic car and wine lover.
