Slobodka, Braslav and the Seligmans
Slobodka, a small shtetl now in Belarus, is located in a border area where control continually shifted between the Russians, Poles, Lithuanians, Belarussians and Germans. Being no more than a village, community life in Slobodka was deeply integrated with Braslav, the district town only ten kilometres south-west.

Slobodka, and the surrounding area, was home to the Zelikman-Seligman family for centuries. Emigration, the destruction of the community during the Holocaust and Soviet rule brought Jewish life in the Braslav area to an end.
